This needed if current processor is having problems, or you just want to make PC run faster. Though it looks like a scary task, replacing a processor can be easy to perform, as long as you take correct safety measures and follow a logical, step-by-step approach.
Instructions
Step 1
Shut down PC, and disconnect it from wall. Switch on power supply to "Off" position also. Take off side of PC case, using screwdriver to remove screws that holding side in place. Place PC flat on its side, exposing inside of case.
Step 2
Put on anti-static wristband, and connect metal clip on end to a part of metal in PC case.
Step 3
Take out RAM, video cards, cables or several extra parts that are in way of CPU.
Step 4
Using screwdriver, take out screws holding CPU fan in place. With your fingers, softly pry up lock bar placed on one of four sides of CPU chip, which holds physical chip in place. Softly remove processor from motherboard, being careful not to break off any pins.
Step 5
Take new processor, and put it softly into processor socket on motherboard. Do not curve or break any pins on processor. Place locking bar back into place. This will need few amount of force to execute.
Step 6
Clean top of processor softly with a microfiber cloth, then put a dime-sized amount of heat sink paste on top of processor. Take CPU fan, and clean bottom so that any remaining heat sink paste from old processor is gone.
Step 7
Again connect CPU fan to processor. Change all parts, wires or other devices you earlier separate. Again connect side of PC case, turn it upright, connect it in and turn on power supply.
