There are many reasons you want to attach laptop to HDTV, from giving a presentation to a group to sharing images and videos with friends and family when you are together. It's also brilliant way to watch HD or Blu-Ray content without need to buy an HD DVD or Blu-Ray player.

Instructions

Step 1

Test to notice if laptop has an HDMI output. This will generally be placed at side or back of laptop and will be labeled. You can also check owner's manual. If you get HDMI output then it is okay. Laptop can be attached to HDTV with cable, which can be bought online or at any PC shop.

Step 2

If you did not get an HDMI output on laptop then in its place you get DVI output. Then once more check laptop to decide if you have one.

To attach laptop to HDTV if you have a DVI output you want an HDMI to DVI cable. This cable will generate a digital signal so you will still obtain similar HD resolutions you want if standard HDMI cable is used.

Step 3

If PC has neither an HDMI nor DVI output then it is VGA output. If attach laptop with a VGA output to an HDTV you obtain high resolution, but it will be restricted by TV as various TVs support various resolutions for VGA.

Step 4

Lastly, many laptops have an S-Video output if nothing else. This will output data in typical definition. The resolution won’t take complete benefit of HDTV but it will obtain movie, picture or presentation onto it.

Step 5

After laptop is attached to HDTV with proper cable, start laptop and see if it detects HDTV. Generally you won’t have any problem but with certain laptops or HDTVs you must twist display properties settings to enable TV. In Windows this can be completed from Control Panel and adjusting video card settings.
