Having a hot swap drive in PC provides a suitable way to access data from many different hard drives without having all installed in PC together. Install a hot swap drive if you have many hard drives and want to be able to exchange them in PC without opening case every time.
Instructions
Step 1
Shut down PC and take out power cable.
Step 2
Open PC case. Your case may have a side panel that slides off, or a U-shaped metal cover protected by screws. See instruction manual if you are unable to decide method for opening your case.
Step 3
Find an open 5.25-inch drive in PC. In most tower designs, 5.25-inch bays are placed on top, and in front. Take out cover to represent it.
Step 4
Glide hot swap into 5.move slowly drive throughout front.
Step 5
Find power supply in PC case. Many wires will expand from it. Get one with a one-inch wide connector at end, either white with four pins or black with many pins and an L-shape. If you contain a black L-shaped power connector, attach it to back of hot swap bay. If you contain a white four-pin connector, connect a SATA power adapter previous to attaching cable to back of bay.
Step 6
Attach a SATA data cable to remaining connector on back of hot swap bay, and to an open SATA port on motherboard. The connectors on motherboard and hot swap bay will be keyed with an L-shape to avoid cable from being putted in wrongly.
Step 7
Slither a hard disk into front of hot swap bay. Connectors on back of hard drive will connect with those in bay.
Step 8
Connect power cable back in, and turn on PC. Drive putted into hot swap bay must spin up and be detected mechanically. Close PC case after verifying that hot swap bay works appropriately.
