HP utilizes a broad array of parts to build their PCs. The type of hardware found in any HP is straight determined by its use. More strong PCs utilized for gaming and video editing will have strong and thus costly parts. Getting a substitute motherboard, must PC be under guarantee, is as simple as contacting HP and following its commands. Should PC not be under guarantee, though, a new motherboard can be bought from any number of online sources.
Instructions
Finding Your Motherboard
Step 1
Check manual for model number of HP's motherboard. Also this data on HP's support website on support page for specific model.
Step 2
Should you unable to get model number online or in manual, take out side of PC's case by unscrewing two mounting screws. Using a flashlight, get motherboard model number printed on its PCB.
Step 3
Buy your substitute motherboard straight from HP, as company stocks exact substitutes for all motherboards. Should motherboard be discontinued, you must get a retailer that stocks genuine OEM HP substitute parts
Installing Your Motherboard
Step 1
Connect leads on grounding bangle to somewhat metal and grounded. This will decrease options of electro-static discharge harming parts.
Step 2
Take out side of HP's case. Detach all power supply connectors and droop them outside of case, for easiness of access. Take out RAM and graphics card. Detach hard drive and any PCI cards that may be connected to motherboard.
Step 3
Remove motherboard mounting screws. Watchfully unmount heatsink/fan from CPU socket. Unclip the retaining mechanism from around CPU.
Step 4
Install new motherboard into case being cautious not to over tighten mounting screws. Again attach and re-install all earlier removed parts.
Step 5
If PC is running Windows, you must execute a "repair install" of OS. Put restore disk that came with HP into optical drive, restart and follow onscreen prompts. Select "repair" choice when asked.
