Earlier PC owners could not get sufficient of more speed. Now, many of us have all speed we could always want, but we are continuously running out of storage space. Upgrade SATA hard drive to make more room for favorite videos, music and games.
Instructions
Step 1
Shut down PC fully. Find power cable on machine. Power cable is usually very thick, and placed near the top. Detach it from plug.
Step 2
Open PC. Search for a handle or button that can be pulled or pushed to release panels on side of framework. If you do not see one of these, search for a chain of Phillips head screws along perimeter of back of framework and unscrew them.
Step 3
Search for a metal bracket in PC that is about similar size as hard drive. Few PC cases have many of these. Preferably, you will get one that leaves a space between new hard drive and any current ones, so that much of air enable to flow around drive. Slide hard drive into bracket you have selected, and safe it with two screws on every side. If you bought a retail-boxed drive, screws are included.
Step 4
Find power supply. Many cables emerge from power supply. Search for a cable with a black connector on end, about 1-inch wide, and attach it to back of drive. If there is no connector such, search for white connector with 4pins. Put SATA power adapter over this, and then connect remaining end of adapter into back of hard drive.
Step 5
Connect SATA data cable to back of hard drive and into motherboard. The connectors on ends of cable are L-shaped, avoiding them from being inserted wrongly.
Step 6
Close PC case, change power cable and turn on PC. New hard drive will be detected by PC mechanically.
