Using home PC as main hub for a surveillance system is a gainful method of improving home safety. Cameras that work on a wireless network that home is probably already running remove the need to drill holes to run wiring to and from PC, though that remains option. Before buying any PC surveillance tools, ensure to research newest brands and prices online.
Instructions
Step 1
Access home safety requirements and decide where you want to put cameras. If placing them outside, ensure cameras are weatherproofed and located in not easily seen places.
Step 2
Mount cameras. Based on camera, you want to drill pilot holes and mount those using screws. Mounting hardware must be added. If cameras are adhesive backed, unwrap the caring paper away and push them tightly against mounting surface. If using wired cameras, check to ensure wiring is long sufficient to run back to PC.
Step 3
If wired cameras are used then take out side of PC's case and mount DVR capture card into PCI slot on motherboard. Connect proper power connector if needed. Be confident to protect card to case with added screw. Change the case siding.
Step 4
Install added DVR capture software and organize its choices to suit particular requirements. Toggle motion sensing, time lapse and recording times.
Step 5
Utilizing wireless cameras attach wireless receiver to PC ports. Generally, these receivers utilize USB but check with manual for information particular to model.
Step 6
Install software added with wireless receiver. Ensure that all cameras are working on same frequency or channel and that wireless receiver is getting picture from every camera.
