Video BIOS controls how your OS cooperates with video card. If video card is original card, you should update system BIOS to update video BIOS. If video card was bought separately for an upgrade or replacement, you have choice of updating just video BIOS. Video BIOS updates are frequently wanted when you have upgraded OS or after installing new video card.
a. Decide if you want a system BIOS update or a video BIOS update.
System BIOS: Video card should be original card that came with PC or a substitute from similar company.
Video BIOS: Video card was bought independently, like an upgrade or substitute from a various company than original.
b. Decide BIOS or video card company. Download and install Belarc Advisor if you do not know these.
c. Follow the prompts in installation wizard to install.
d. Examine system and find "Main Circuit Board" region for BIOS Company or "Display" region for Card Company.
e. Go to website for company you want.
f. Find "Help", "Support" or "Downloads" sector for BIOS downloads at website.
g. Download new BIOS for system or video card. Read any commands that come with BIOS download. Few need a floppy disk, others need flash drive and others can be run directly from desktop. Particular instructions differ depending on company.
h. Put in any media necessary to run BIOS update and copy update onto media. If you can run update from desktop, media is not needed.
i. For system BIOS updates requiring detachable media, reboot PC with media putted in.
j. Push "F12" for boot options during boot procedure and select preferred media. Permit update to run without interference. For system BIOS updates or video card BIOS updates, double click BIOS update on desktop and permit update to run without interference.
