If you want to make backup copies of key files, rip CD data to hard disk, or burn audio CDs you want to install CD-RW unit in PC. To install Memorex CD-RW recorder you want to be easy opening of PC case and working with internal parts. After drive itself is appropriately installed, you can utilize device manager aspect of XP to install CD-RW's driver software.
o Power down PC and remove its power cable. Detach all remaining cables for any peripherals attached to PC.
o Put PC case on its side. Open side access panel from case. Based on particular company and model of PC, you want to press down on release handles, remove two case screws or raise a metal tab.
o Pull side access panel off PC case. Find vacant drive bay at right side of case. Slide the Memorex CD-RW recorder into the drive bay.
o Connect drive bay screws to Memorex CD-RW recorder with screwdriver. Test ribbon cable joining motherboard to hard disk and notice if it has other connection port at center.
o Attach additional connection port to back of Memorex CD-RW recorder. Utilize cable that came with CD-RW if there is not additional connection port on current cable. Attach one end of cable to port on back of CD-RW. Connect other end to long rectangular IDE port on motherboard, which is generally placed to right of processor.
o Find jumper pins on back of CD-RW. Press pins into "Master" setting if you are using a latest ribbon cable. Press pins into "Slave" setting if you are using current ribbon cable.
o Find sequence of cables running from power supply. Attach any one cable to open port of CD-RW.
o Again connect side access panel and attach PC power cable. Turn on PC.
o Right click "My Computer" and select "Manage." Tick "Device Manager." Find entry for Memorex CD-RW recorder.
o Right click entry and select "Properties." Go to "Driver" tab and tick "Update Driver." Wait for new driver to complete installing so that you can utilize Memorex CD-RW recorder.
