If you let your Dell Studio XPS 1640 to overheat, the whole electronic system can be damaged. If you've tried cleaning the dust out of the declare and the PC still runs hot, then the thermal fan is probably shot.
Instructions
• Log off the PC and separate the power cable.
• Detach the marginal devices from the system.
• Rotate over the PC and take away the 10 screws from the bottom cover.
• Pick up the base cover off the PC from left to right to expose the inside components.
• Slide the battery out of the PC.
• Touch an unpainted metal thing sometimes to remain the static electricity from harmful the PC.
• Place the back caps on the reverse of the PC on both sides of the exterior of the battery bay. Slide the left reverse cap to the right and pull it off, and slide the right rear cap to the left and pull it off.
• Remove the seven screws on the copper heat sink conduits and pick up the heat sink out of the PC.
• Eliminate the two screws on the thermal fan.
• Separate the fan wire from its connector on the motherboard.
• Take away the thermal fan from the PC.
• Go behind the instructions in repeal order with the replacement fan to gather the PC.
