Thread: Backup upgraded Ubuntu

I want to do Ubuntu upgrade but previous to that I want to take backup data to ensure that I can restore them once I upgrade. So please give me some hints about backup options available in Ubuntu. All possible replies and suggestions on this topic are very much appreciated. I am waiting for the same.
