I own a HP DV9299ea, nearly the same specs as that HP you've listed, apart from I have an intel core 2, 2GHz chip, nvidia 7600GT (768mb)....... It plays most of my games in 1440x900 really well, so with the advanced graphics card you should be okay, BUT it is an AMD chip, the turion is the equivalent to the Celeron which to be honest is pants.....I know its from Dell, but the Intel based laptop is the one I would go for..... If you could upgrade XP to Vista, you would be laughing, plenty of power to run everything you needed, and Vista is so easy to use. Hope this helps

graphics: 'NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GT' is way superior to the 'NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS'processor: T7250 is way superior to the TL-60so, as far as the hardware build goes > the 2nd system, dell vostro is pretty much superiorthat itself settles the score.(the hp does not even come anywhere close to the dell)another aspect is the operating system: windows xp is far less of a resorce hog, so your applications are better offhowever, make sure you do not need directx10 for your games, as only vista provides you that

I would definitely recommend the second system. I would point out however that if you care about how your notebook looks, the Vostro series look really cheap and have a "home-made" feel to them.

I would go with your first option , hard to read the post from all the special chars inserted here and there, but from what I can read the first machine sounds better.
