If there is a laptop that merits the moniker "Ultrabook"--a condition that Intel brought in (and trademarked) in the first place this year for a class of so slim and light laptops—it is the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s. Not because it is quicker or beefier than the competition (it is not), but because it really appears similar a thin coffee-table book when closed. It is too the Ultrabook that many in our laboratories gravitated toward due to its lavishly minimalist styling and superior insert ergonomics. At least they did till they listened it, a cost tag that ponders the expense of the U300s's big (256GB) solid-state drive, or SSD.
Despite an Intel Core iVII-2677M central processing unit, IV GB of DDRIII system storage, and that aforementioned 256GB SSD on board, the U300s function lagged after the Asus Zenbook UX31e. Even, a World Bench score of 114 suggests lots of power for daily chores. Gaming frame rates delivered through the incorporated Intel HD Graphics 3000 maximum out at 31 frames each second at 800 through 600 result--with the points turned way bottom low, which does not cut the mustard for fresh games.
Six 6 hours and 34 minutes, which compares nicely with the remain of the Ultrabook crowd. At 2.9 pounds it is one of the lighter Ultrabooks, though you would not observe much difference among the heft of the U300s and the Zenbook or the Acer Aspire SIII, entire of which weigh near.
Video playback at any result is smooth as can be, though you acquire the common botton-converting consequences with 1080p playback on the 13.3”, 1366 through 768 screen. The colors delivered through the screen are rich, but the bright surface is prone to glare--one of the some questionable plan decisions on the U300s. Audio is stellar by headphones, but sounds somewhat muffled by the speakers. Tweaking the added SRS sound sweetening software assists enormously.
The U300S's keyboard is "breathable" (to utilize Lenovo’s condition), which is a friendly substitute word for "ventilated." This trick is just utilized on a number of laptops (notably Apple's) so that no ventilation holes are needed on the down of the unit where they can be stopped when sitting on your lap. It too means that the unit experience rather cool on your thighs. A ventilation slot is on the left edge of the laptop, though.
