Sup guys!
This is my first post so I might as well introduce myself..
I'm a retired IT Hardware guy, used to deal in high end components and small to medium sized network infrastructures.. have my A+, N+, and wrote 5 of the 7 components for the MCSE (in 1997) when I realized the industry was overflowing with MCSE dudes and the salaries withered.
My first PC was an XT (learned DOS on that) then a 386SX25 with a 1200baud modem.. Upgraded to a 2400 baud and became a SysOp in my grade 8, Ran several BBS's between 1990 and 1993, joined an ANSI artist group and developed some excellent hex'd BBS's, one of which got 4 dedicated 14.4K Dual Standard USR Modems and 2 2400baud lines from a sponsor.. ran those until the internet killed the BBS scene when I got serious about IT
I used to be a go-to guy for hardware solutions in my circle and have helped my clients with all sorts of unique solutions.. I've worked as a consultant and Installer for startup ISP's in the dial-up dayz and really enjoyed unique and breaking hardware.. Kinda wished I bought stock in 3dfx..
As of 2000 I retired from the IT industry. I found that the manufacturers where milking the technology and thriving on market confusion and hype. The customers more often then not didn't understand what they wanted / what they needed / or even what they wanted to do. Many became very needy with tech support (which was usually opperator error). I really didn't like the customer end of the business too much.
8 years later.. I am still waiting for Quad Data Rate RAM.
I changed careers and became an Automotive mechanic seeing that cars were becoming more and more computerized and networked. I am now a Licenced Mechanic and haven't looked back.
Unfortunately as time goes by, I AM getting pretty outdated. I feel now that technology has caught up with my expectations, and some of the newest stuff is now foriegn to me.
I guess I have put down my "power user" status and become a "typical user" and a "has been".. but I still try to help my friends out when they need it.
Nice to meet you all.
