STEP 1: Ultra VNC is free a Virtual Network Computing software which is used to establish a remote desktop connection. 'Remote Desktop Connection', itself, is a default Windows tool which you can access from 'Start I Programs I Accessories I Communication'. Install Ultra VNC from the CHIP DVD (alternatively, you can download it from the listed links). The installation of Ultra VNC is a simple and standard procedure. In the 'Select Components' screen in the installation, it is recommended to choose 'Full Installation' to get viewing and server rights.
STEP 2: With the full installation, Ultra VNC will have two icons-UltraVNC Server and UltraVNC Viewer. The 'Server' of UltraVNC is required on the computer being accessed and a 'Viewer' is required by the accessing computer. Though, both computers can have, both, the Server and the Viewer, it is necessary to at least have the aforementioned combination.
The Server is usually configured with installation and there is nothing much that you need to manually do. Remember to enable your firewall to allow both, Hamachi and Ultra VNC, to run.
STEP 3: To view the other computer on the network, you need to configure the UltraVNC Viewer by feeding in the Hamachi IP address of the remote computer. For instance, if you are at office and you want to see the desktop screen of your home computer on your office computer, you need to copy the Hamachi IP from the home computer and feed it in Ultra VNC Viewer. You can copy the Hamachi IP address by right clicking the displayed guest home computer in Hamachi and pasting it in the VNC Server field in Ultra VNC Viewer.
STEP 4: So, there you go, you are ready to control your home computer which is miles away from office. To switch back
to your office computer, all you need to do is minimize the window which is displaying the desktop of your home computer-it's just another window but it's completely active and you can access all the information you need just the way you would if you were sitting in front of the computer at home. A healthy Internet connection on both ends is definitely required to use this software and if your Internet connection is weak, the connection will drop and break at any end.
The network will obviously need to be revived to continue for which you will have to be at the remote computer. The higher the Internet connection speed, the better the networking will function. There are a whole lot of things that you can do with this combination of freeware. Because Hamachi gives you a virtually live IP, you can do so much with it.
To begin with, you can host a free http (Web) server using Hamachi's IP. This can help you if you do not wish to or cannot afford to buy paid location on a server you can simply host it using the Hamachi IP. Similarly, you can also host a free FTP server which can be quite a fruitful way to share large files without actually having a ftp server.
There are a whole lot of free ftp server options on the following link: System engineers can service their remote clients by connecting to their computers from a remote destination. This can also be a great way to guide someone who is confused by actually demonstrating the solution from a distant place-almost like a simulation. To unwind, you can use this service to connect with others on games which do not have live servers.
