The Union Government has plans to define cyber crimes under the IT Act 2000. It is likely to introduce an Amendment Bill in the winter sessioQ of Parliame'fl.t to discus and formulate the course of action for all crimes where technology is used for terror and anti-social activities.
Besides data security and privacy, the Amendment Bill would cover cyber terrorism, child pornography, spam and phishing. The Director General of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (lCT), Gulshan Rai, made an announcement to this effect at the UN-sponsored Internet Governance Forum. He also stressed the need for international collaboration to deal with technology-oriented crimes, adding that the police and judiciaty were in dire need of training to be able to deal with cyber criminals.
