Company Numonyx and Samsung Electronics have announced that they will jointly develop the market specifications for the memory based on phase transitions (phase change memory, PCM), speed reading and recording of above with a lower energy than that of a normal memory NOR and NAND. Creating the specifications of hardware and software for the PCM-products should simplify the creation of new devices and reduce the time needed for their development, which will allow both manufacturers to move quickly to issue faster devices with lower power consumption. Design features companies Samsung and Numonyx will be completed; with the first device based on the new specifications will appear.

Jointly developed by the characteristics hardware and software, mobile devices, embedded modules, and other possible applications that will support the standard JEDEC LPDDR2 memory for low energy consumption. This standard provides advanced power management features, a common interface for nonvolatile memory (NVM) and energy-memory (SDRAM), and involves a wide range of density and speed.

"Our joint efforts with Numonyx will provide a more secure way for the introduction of PCM in mobile devices," ─ Who said-clank Kim, vice president for planning and advancement of mobile technology company Samsung. ─ "We believe that ultimately the PCM will be an important addition to our family of memory that would be nice to allocate our model to other mobile memory solutions, and ultimately increase our advantage in the industry."

"General characteristics of chipsets will allow manufacturers and other interested companies in the ecosystem of standardized and easier to introduce a new generation of memory technology, which will be useful not only for manufacturers of phones, but also for manufacturers of embedded systems and high-tech computing devices, as well as their clients," ─ said Brian Harrison (Brian Harrison), President and CEO of Numonyx.
