Without a doubt, solid-state drives are one of the most prominent component in the modern marketplace of computers and accessories. Most users and analysts agree that, compared to mechanical hard drives with SSD-drives have many advantages, but at the same time, the price of one gigabyte hard drive is much less than the price of one gigabyte on an electronic storage system, which forces users to remain actively buying for their computer data CDs.
Analysts believe that this year, from 1% to 1.5% of all laptops will have a solid-state drives. At the single market netbook this number will reach 10%, which is understandable, given that netbook primarily require light weight and small size, while the laptop is usually able to completely replace the average desktop system. However, when assessing these numbers it should be noted that in netbook laptops and SSD-drives are most often used in combination with conventional mechanical drive.
The main reason for the weak penetration of electronic storage to the market is their high price. Most likely, next year the percentage of SSD-drive and mechanical drive will still not in favor of SSD, although more favorable to the new disk as a result of the emergence of SSD-friendly operating system Windows 7, and move the production of flash memory on 30nm production methods.
