Provided a couple of years ago, Western Digital Series quieter and cooler HDD Caviar Green Power actually has revolutionized the market for small-scale traditional hard disk drive. A long time, spindle speed 7200 rpm de-facto standard for desktop drives. On the HDD with a spindle with a speed of 5400 RPM, the public has forgotten, write them down in the annals of history (of course, we are not talking about laptops, where low power consumption has always been a key factor, more important than performance). However, WD GP in his example demonstrated that in combination with modern controllers, interfaces, and large amounts of cache hard drives to 5400 RPM can be ideal for file storage, not demanding to the instantaneous speed. Following the marked trend of increasing, and only arose due to Western Digital of interest in these seemingly specific HDD, Seagate just released their pretty good lineup Pipeline HD underweight prior to 5900 revolutions per minute speed drives. Not so long ago by a pair of competitors joined the market and the third giant drives - Samsung - with its family of HDD EcoGreen, to strengthen competition in the segment described. Let's see, that can offer as an alternative, the Korean company.
In the catalog of Samsung at the moment is 11 EcoGreen hard drive series with Spindle speed 5400 RPM. Six of them are included in a series of F1, and have a capacity of 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB, 640 GB, 750 GB or 1 TB. The first four are equipped with a buffer of 16 MB, while the latter pair - to 32 MB. The remaining five belong to the family of models F2 and have capacity of 500 GB, 1 TB or 1.5 TB. Two older models are presented in two versions - with 16 and 32 MB cache.
While all of these devices are of interest, especially among them want to F2 HD502HI, as this HDD with a plate, with the maximum possible for the present day density of 500 Gb. It is obvious that the smaller plates are involved in the HDD, the less the number of service heads, and with them the production of noise, energy consumption and emissions of heat. Of course, this assertion is not always true. The point is that manufacturers can use less quality materials and simplified design for models with a small number of plates, which are sometimes expressed in increased vibration, noise, etc.
Fortunately, we have chosen to study Samsung F2 HD502HI described deficiencies did not have, and according to logic, is the alleged characteristics of at least the quietest of the whole line EcoGreen. Made them with noise estimated at 2.2 Bel at rest and 2.7 - Loaded with intensive movement of heads. Compare these settings with HDD series of F1, with even less capacity volume Bel 2.45 and 2.8, respectively.
