AMD seems to be gearing up to introduce a new line of low cost 45nm processors dubbed "Athlon II". Coexisting with the current Phenom II lineup, these would also be available in dual-, triple- and quad-core versions, but presumably with reduced or no L3 caches.

New Phenom II chips are also expected in the next few months. These would include several low-power models.

Meanwhile, Intel is readying its mainstream Core i7 derivatives for desktops, which means that Core 2 Duo prices might drop, making things more difficult for AMD.
