Nokia and Intel have jointly announced a long-term partnership to develop "a new class of Intel Architecture-based mobile computing device and chipset architectures", prompting widespread speculation that the Finnish cell phone giant is set to launch its own line of netbooks in addition to any new, innovative hardware categories Nokia's expertise combined with experience in designing and selling Internet-enabled devices could help it gain a strong foothold in this new market. Nokia's devices and Intel's tech muscle could also help boost 3G and WiMAX deployments around the world. The companies also annouced a commitment to open and standards-compliant software.
