In mid-2010, AMD plans to release its first six-core desktop processors. These processors will respond to Gulftown, Intel, whose appearance is scheduled for the second quarter of 2010.
Details of the forthcoming AMD processors are not yet known, but it seems that the manufacturers overhauls Istanbul and make it more suitable for desktop computers. As for AMD, and Intel to be a big problem to ensure that all six cores, as well as at the present time, programmers just master the four core, more than that, so far, not all applications can effectively use at least two cores.
AMD chip will also be made on 45nm process technology, which, though not much help to AMD, since Intel processor Gulftown will be produced on 32nm process technology, which is likely to give Intel an advantage in solving the frequency, and hence in productivity. The logic is really simple. Both processors can have power consumption up to 130W, while Intel 32nm can operate at a higher frequency than 45nm AMD, consuming the same amount of energy. So, if you do not believe that the happy owner of a 45nm six-core processor can show off to friends, the number of processor cores installed in his home computer, a big benefit from the new items AMD is not expected.
