U.S. companies are nVidia and Microsoft have joined together to collaborate on Tesla, a high-performance computing GPU, and its support of the operating system, Windows HPC Server 2008. nVidia has made several applications to be processed on the GPU, for Windows HPC Server 2008 and together with the largest software manufacturer has created a large computing cluster based on the Tesla to study the applications that are optimized for the GPU.
"Pairing the CPU and GPU shows the enormous power and possibilities of joint multi-core processing", ─ said Dan Reed (Dan Reed), director of the division of scalable and multicore computing at Microsoft. ─ "Work nVidia and Microsoft, and Windows HPC Server platform will provide scientists and researchers to achieve supercomputing performance in various applications.
"The scientific community is one of the first to evaluate the potential of the GPU and uses it to transform its work by increasing the processing speed of 20-200 times using a variety of demanding applications", ─ said Andy Reeves (Andy Keane), general manager of video nVidia. ─ "Researchers are increasingly using Windows on the workstations and data centers because of the advanced tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio, ease of system management and reduce overall costs."
