The California manufacturer Active Media has announced the launch of the first external SSD using the new USB 3.0 interface. Called Aviator 312 (NxxG-A312 for friends) and using the MLC flash memory, the SSD is relatively compact with dimensions of 70 x 54 x 5 mm.

The Aviator 312 is, by Active Media, capable of reaching speeds of around 240 MB / s read and 160MB / s write. It is of course also compatible with USB 2.0, but the speed will be limited to only 30 MB / s ... Three versions should be available by the end of the year: 16 GB ($ 89), 32GB ($ 119) and 64 GB ($ 209). Only small flat, Aviator 312 seems to be guaranteed a year.
