GlobalFoundries, the company that recovered the activities of AMD foundry in March 2009, has announced to work with ARM for SoC burning. Indeed, GlobalFoundries tries to diversify its products and does not just work with AMD.
Towards 28 nm SoC
The idea of this partnership is to produce SoC based on the Cortex A9 (the latest ARM processors) with a fine engraving of 28 nm (it is currently between 40 and 45 nm). HKMG technology (High K Metal Gates) society makes it possible to limit the leakage currents and produce chips that require very little energy to operate. By working together, the two companies hope therefore further improve the efficiency of the ARM processor. Recall ARM produces its own processors, but also suggests that other manufacturers incorporate into their own products and thus avoid developing their own processor. By optimizing the process for ARM processors, GlobalFoundries therefore also hopes eventually to recover its fold companies that produce SoC based on ARM products, and they are numerous.
