Microsoft has presented several prototypes multitouch mouse fancier one than the other.

Capture the movements of the fingers on the mouse

Redmond showed five models still far from commercialization, but to come from the shadows to rumors of a mouse multi-touch Apple running for a while.

The engineers who worked on these mice are the same as those who have been working on Natal (see "The Xbox 360 comes to the Wii). Most of these prototypes resemble a curved multitouch touchpad and removable.

Capture all movements

Microsoft first showed the Cape Town Mouse, the mouse is designed to be criticized the most of what we are used to see. With a surface capacitive, it is possible to scroll, zoom and move objects by simply dragging his fingers over the surface. The engineers explain that it is always possible to click, like on a traditional mouse, consumers are disoriented without this option.

The FTIR (Frustrated Total Internal Reflection) Mouse uses an infrared camera to detect the position of the fingers on the curved acrylic surface. Resembling the Arc of Redmond is one that seems most promising. The Orb Mouse which has a semi-spherical surface which rests the hand is interesting, but seems reserved for niche players, developers and designers so that each region of the mouse can be used in a specific order within d ' application.

Finally, Microsoft has shown Arty Mouse which is controlled by two articulated arms with ends which is a knob that is placed under the fingers of the user and Side Mouse, which detects movement when fingers are placed on the table. The wrist is on the mouse and camera analyzes what is happening in front of him.

The end of the mouse?

We are still far from commercialization, but it is interesting to see Microsoft working to change the device that we use every day and yet at the least evolved in recent years. We must also say that the mouse is slowly replacing the trackpad of laptops that are becoming increasingly popular and little user effort is an external mouse.
