A small all-rounder is QNAP's new NAS server TS-410: It's set up as a Web server, backup, FTP, print, file, multimedia, music download and streaming server. The TS-410 is part of the "Turbo Station" series of the manufacturer: The heart is the Marvell 6281 CPU with 800 MHz clock rate, to 256 Mbytes of RAM and 16 MB of flash memory accesses.
Four are set up to 2,5 - or 3.5-inch hard drives that are cooled with a 9 inch big fan. The total capacity is 8 terabytes. The mass storage device is addressed with the RAID modes 0, 1, 5, 6, 5 + Spare and JBOD. The hard drives are in the current RAID-exchange operation. The connection to network is via dual gigabit Ethernet port. External storage devices, printers, or as MP3 players are docked with four USB and two eSATA ports.
QNAP promises to be compatible operating systems including Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Unix. The manufacturer stresses the energy input: 12 watts will be included in the sleep mode; there are around 20 watts when operating with four plates. The suggested retail price is 380 euros without hard drives.
