ATI and Nvidia have decided to give the sack to the graphics chip to 55 nanometers. There are several sources behind this story from that underlines how the two companies wish to maintain a low number of video cards in circulation to 55 nanometers, at which indicates the low presence of GTX 285 and HD 4870 X2 in stores. This situation should last at least until the first quarter of 2010 and could lead to a general rise in prices.
The two companies are preparing to unveil the full range of new proposals to 40 nanometers. It is understandable, therefore, be faced with a situation like this. However, the choice of keeping inventory levels on a good but not exceptional graphics chip allows designers to have more control over orders from the manufacturers.
"When Nvidia has an inventory for 90 days of sales, manufacturers of graphics cards added weight of trying to buy significant quantities once each quarter, requiring large discounts. This situation forces the designer to sell the GPU chip prices low, so as not to reduce the results on the quarter. "
It is natural that Nvidia is that ATI wants to protect them from the assault care. This situation is clear, moreover, that production at 40 nanometers, today is not satisfactory, could be a step away from a radical improvement.
