The code name of the day is a motherboard chipset using a very famous, but it is also the name of a Caribbean island. The chipset in question is the Intel 440BX, companion of the Pentium II and III of the big time, and the card is the Intel AR440BX, with the chipset in question.
Aruba
The i440BX (82443BX) chipset is designed to P6 processors like the Pentium II and III. He officially took over a bus at 100 MHz maximum, but many maps actually spent in bus 133 MHz without any problem. The chipset took over the SDRAM (synchronous with the FSB) and the AGP bus (with a ratio of 2 / 3 or 1 / 1). The latter value was problematic: 133MHz bus, AGP is seen overclocked at 88 MHz, a high value for many maps (the base frequency is 66 MHz). The 440BX was accompanied by a PIIX4 (Southbridge) that supports the PCI 2.1, UltraDMA 2 (33 Mbps) and USB 1.0. The mobile versions (440ZX) and professional (440GX) have also been proposed and the 440BX chipset is commonly used as a basis in virtualization software for its excellent support by the majority of systems.
