Hitachi GST will celebrate its seventh anniversary in January. Born from the merger of the hard disk of the U.S. IBM and those of the Japanese Hitachi Company today introduced two new Ultrastar, targeting businesses.

The Ultrastar C15K147 is a brand new disc everything beautiful. Format two inches and a half, it will be offered in two sizes, 73 and 147 GB (300 GB later?). His or her work trays to 15 000 revolutions per minute, allowing the C15K147 to be significantly faster than its cousin at 10 000 revolutions per minute. A cache of 64 MB is present in this model. It will be offered with a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) to 6 Gb / s.Consumption of 147 GB model is 7.3 watts and 4.4 watts load in idle while the 73GB merely 6.8 watts and 4 respectively. The maximum speed of the disk varies between 116 and 159 Mb / s while the response time is 3 milliseconds.

The Ultrastar 15K600 allows Hitachi to claim a capacity of 600 GB on a hard drive running at 15 000 rpm (Seagate offers in recent weeks, the Cheetah 15K.7). Capacity of 300 and 450 GB will be also proposed. Found in all cases 64 MB of cache and an interface to choose SAS 6 Gb / s FCAL or (fiber) to 4 Gb / s. The consumption charge varies from 7.7 watts (300 GB) to 10.7 watts (600 GB) through 9.2 watts (450 GB).

The two new feature encryption on the fly. The Ultrastar are guaranteed for 5 years by the Japanese manufacturer. The C15K147 and 15K600 is available now from their creator, it will take a few days they arrive in stores.
