There is a little over a month; Intel launched its Lynnfield processors based on Nehalem microarchitecture. In addition i5 & Core i7, the Santa Clara giant also offers the Xeon socket LGA 1156.The Xeon L3426 has just appeared in Japan. This quad-core has good HyperThreading and is clocked at 1.86 GHz.
Its strong point is its TDP of only 45 watts (instead of 95 watts for other Xeon and Core i5/i7 in LGA 1156). Present on Intel listings, is available in Japan against the equivalent of 250 € TTC. This is a rate similar to that of Core i7-860. The Xeon L3426 represents a good option for anyone looking for a powerful platform, but energy efficient.
