Version of the chip nVidia GT300 (Fermi), designed for productive segment of the market, will be presented in the first quarter of 2010. It is not too good for the company, as its competitor ATI has already started to produce its own chips for graphics new generation, with support for DirectX 11. Of course, we are talking about the Radeon HD 5770 and Radeon HD 5750, which were presented this week.
Supposedly, the first based on the Fermi will be issued smart cards for productive, high-performance version for the video card with one chip, as well as the option for two-chip model, which is likely to appear in a few weeks after a single core. As for the main and lower segments, here everything is a little worse. Most likely, these chips will appear in March next year, if not later. Despite the tremendous flexibility of the architecture Fermi GF100, still need time to get out of the original design of a slower version.
Some analysts suggest that with a significant advantage in the timing of AMD / ATI can capture much bólshy piece of the market of DirectX 11 than initially expected. Sales, which began months before the appearance of a rival, are a very effective way to increase profits and market share. While the graphics on the next generation nVidia chip may appear a little earlier, in any case, the producer behind at least a quarter.
Partner’s nVidia have high hopes that the chip GF100 / "GT300" / Fermi in the end will be very well sold, and many enthusiasts are already planning for next year to get a decision on this chip. One reason for this can be regarded as a certain lack of graphics chips for a family of GT200, possibly, nVidia has already begun to quietly withdraw from the market 55nm solutions. Also there is the possibility that nVidia did not expect such a strong demand in the third and fourth quarters, and therefore partners expect Fermi will be able to correct the situation.
nVidia and its partners believe that Fermi should significantly reduce the sales of Radeon HD 5870 and HD 5850, but, of course, only after it will begin mass sales. And, of course, this will greatly affect the number of new chips that will be able to ship nVidia. And in the next few months, ATI will reap the harvest for a series of 58x0 and 57x0.
