Emulex, a company that specializes in external storage, had indicated it would support the DSS in its solutions for businesses. Interestingly, the company said it supports the current SSD, SATA interface mainly on its products, which typically use a SAS interface or an interface FC-AL (Fiber Channel), more common in the professional world. The company also offers several ways to integrate the DSS and the first is simple: use the compatibility functions of SAS (which uses the same connector as SATA) to connect a SATA SSD. This solution is effective, SAS controllers are compatible SATA. The second is to use a bridge to connect a SATA SSD to a Fiber Channel and last for OEMs is to produce SSD directly using a professional interface. Emulex, which specializes in this type of solution, also provides manufacturers with the DSS equipment.

In fact, this announcement shows that especially the professional world is concerned with SSD technology increasingly common and is now properly controlled and viable in the world of servers. Note nonetheless that devices based on flash memory are used in industry for fifteen years, mainly as a boot device for machine tools: the impact resistance and lack of moving parts being advantages for this type of device, while the capacity (time limited) is not really a problem.
