For some time we knew that a Core i7-960 was being prepared at Intel. This quad-core with Hyper-Threading (i.e. eight threads) is clocked at 3.20 GHz. It yet has 8 MB cache with third level of a bus QuickPath Interconnect 4.8 GT / s. And still supports the three DDR3 channels. Intel introduced its new processor at $ 562, the same rate as the current Core i7-950.
This is however still present in the list price of the giant Santa Clara. The Core i7-870 is also offered at this price. The Core i7-950 probably saw his last moment, unless Intel decides to drop the price (it was not at the time the Core i7-940).
