With a little late compared to usual, the Apple Store online has closed. New iMac? New mouse? New MacBook? Rumors fuse. We all know in a few tens of minutes. Yes, because Apple closed its online store to upgrade the ray, a good way to generate buzz.
We thus find a lot of news. In the minor options include the Wi-Fi hotspots (Time Capsule and Airport Extreme) faster and a new remote aluminum, always sold € 20. In accessories, we can note the disappearance of the Mighty Mouse, replaced by Apple in Wired Mouse and the Magic Mouse with Bluetooth. The first is a Mighty Mouse under another name; the second is a new mouse with a touch multitouch surface, which accepts gestures for scrolling, zooming, etc. Sold for 69 €, it comes standard with the iMac and remove the great flaws of the old mouse, the ball served scroll wheel. Finally, note that the keyboard is changing, albeit minor: Bluetooth version uses only two batteries (instead of three) but still fails the keypad.
A MacBook
The MacBook, which had remained unchanged since March 2006, is changing. You win a new hull, still in polycarbonate, a removable battery (7 hours) and less than 50 € (900 €). It is equipped with a Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz, a chip GeForce 9400M with DDR3 (2GB), a hard disk of 250GB, a DVD burner and an LED screen (1 280 x 800). The machine leaves the FireWire (only two USB ports) and the Mini DVI to the now ubiquitous Mini DisplayPort. The MacBook only has a 3.5mm jack (optical output, analog output, analog input) and RJ45 (Ethernet 1 Gigabit / s). As usual, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 11n are in the game, all in 2.13 kilograms. Note the absence of infrared sensor (for remote) and SD card reader.
Two iMacs
The iMac 20-inch and 24 inch iMac disappear and are replaced by 21.5 inches and 27 inches. Both have a IPS panel, they move to 16:9: 1 920 x 1 080 for the first 2 560 x 1 440 for the second (with LED backlighting). The first model (1 100 €) has a Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz, GeForce 9400M chip and disk drive 500 GB Interestingly, Apple has integrated four memory locations, which helps increase the amount RAM. The second (€ 1 350) uses the same CPU but with a Radeon 4670 256 MB and a hard drive 1TB the third, with its 27-inch screen, uses the same processor and the same graphics card (a 4850 512 Mo is optional) to 1 500 €. Finally, the high-end uses a Core i5 (4 cores) to 2.66 GHz or a Core i7 (Series 800) to 2.8 GHz (4 cores + HyperThreading).
The graphics card is a Radeon 4850 512 MB All models have four USB 2.0 ports, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a FireWire output 800 and 4 GB of RAM. Interestingly, mouse and keyboard are wireless and delivered an SD card reader is present. Finally, we note a Mini DisplayPort output on the range and novelty, the opportunity to use the model as 27-inch screen, with an adapter (not yet proposed) and a priori restricted to machines with Mini DisplayPort.
Two Mac Mini
Finish with the Mac Mini, which changes little. The machine loses 50 € (550 or 750 € depending on model) and win a few MHz, but the news is not there. By cons, Apple offers Mac Mini 'server' with two hard drives (500 GB), the second replacing the optical drive. Proposed € 949, with Snow Leopard Seveur, the Mac Mini offers a priori the same functions as the traditional model and is perfect as a small media server at home.
Finally, Apple has extended its range and news are interesting, although the lack of Blu-ray damage.
