ARM has launched its smallest processor to date, the Cortex-MP A5 Core.
A new smart entry and midrange
It is also one that consumes the least (one-third of ARM 11) and is least expensive. It is designed for phones, entry-level and embedded products at low cost that should be marketed in 2011. ARM hits so hard with a product that would complicate the task of Intel trying to penetrate this market.
Architecture
Compatible with applications Coretex-A8 and Cortex-A9, the Cortex-A5 engine integrates multimedia first and a 128-bit SIMD architecture. Available in versions single or quad cores, the processor reaches frequencies of 1 GHz, which is three times more than the A9. Manufacturers may also choose a frequency of 500 MHz if they wish above all reduce the TDP processor.
