Amazon has launched what it describes as a service of relational database located on a cloud and he called Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service).
MySQL on a cloud
This allows companies to easily use clustered database without having to manage physical machines, since it is Amazon that charge. The great advantage of this solution is that it is compatible with codes and development tools MySQL, which is the database of choice for many companies. This service is therefore complementary to the Amazon SimpleDB is not as complete as RDS.
More performance and cheaper price
Amazon also took the opportunity to submit new EC2 service to increase the amount of available memory and processor type used in order to facilitate the implementation of heavy tasks. The firm has finally reduced its prices and the smallest Linux EC2 does not require more than 9.5 U.S. cents per hour for European consumers, against 11 U.S. cents previously. To our knowledge, Amazon does not charge in euros.
