Company Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology recently discovered that their notebook shipments in the second half of the year are growing, and both manufacturers are optimistic about notebook shipments in 2010.
MSI expects that shipments of its laptops will be in the fourth quarter of 2009 to grow by more than 10% due to the appearance of Windows 7, however, according to MSI president Joseph Hsu (Joseph Hsu), the lack of optical drives and DRAM, which is expected to last until end of 2009, and even a little longer, could harm growth. However, for 2010 compared to the current year, Hsu expects growth of about 30%, and this applies both to the MSI laptops, as well as to computers such as all-in-one.
Relatively netbooks Hsu said that the proportion of MSI netbook, the total number of notebooks, and the manufacturer issued declined from the level of 50% to about 30%. The market demand for ultra-thin notebooks has been weaker than expected, but Hsu is counting on the fact that in the first half of 2010 the proportion of ultra-thin models will account for 20% of total notebook MSI, and in the second half of ─ 30%, as Soon, Intel will release dual-core processors designed for this segment, resulting in an explosion of popularity of ultra-thin notebooks.
Gigabyte announced that it is doubtful to complete its formerly set goal ─ to trade in 2009, 200,000 laptops due to lower than estimated supplies of notebooks in the first half of this year. But, Richard Ma, vice president of Gigabyte, noted the increase in shipments in the third quarter as well as alleged that in his estimation, the supply in 2009 reached 120,000 units. Ma expects that in 2010, Gigabyte notebook shipments reached 300,000 units, and, like Hsu, he expects that Windows 7 will increase the demand. In addition, in the first quarter of 2010 Gigabyte will start producing ultra-thin notebooks.
