A hidden feature in Windows 7 lets you turn your laptop on Wi-Fi hotspot.

Virtual Wi-Fi

Programmers have discovered the Virtual Wi-Fi code includes the latest operating system from Redmond that allows virtualizing the NIC to simulate several independent adapters. This should be one of the great innovations of the OS, but the firm has not finished the pilot and the project was suspended. Concretely, this means that the low level code is present, but nothing can activate and use this function.

Router software

That is why the company issued Nomadio Connectify, which takes advantage of elements present in Windows 7.This system goes beyond a simple ad hoc connection sharing internet. The device is first recognized as an access point and it is possible to connect to multiple wireless networks simultaneously using a single card. The advantage of this system is obvious. If you need to pay Internet in your hotel room or a cafe, Connectify can share your connection with all the systems around you (smartphone or laptop to your colleague). Your machine becomes a software router.

Connectify

Connectify is in public beta and Windows 7 users can download and use it free for the moment. The editor speaks of a final version available, but sponsored and an identical version without advertising, but pay. Note that this feature already exists on Mac OS X (System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet Sharing).
