Hard drive manufacturer Seagate has today announce the launch of its first Serial Attached SCSI hard drive for the business market. S25 Western Digital hard drive which is basically a slightly redesigned version of the manufacturer's VelociRaptor hard drive which is their flagship product in the consumer market. S25 is clearly operating with an engine speed of 10 000 RPM and can a 16MB memory buffer to provide up to 300GB storage capacity.
The hard drive is targeted to the server and the corporate market with its SAS interface capable of transfer rates 6Gbps. Other differences from desktop model Raptor is that the device is delivered without heat sink and a 2.5-inch device saves both space and power compared too many other business solutions.
WD S25 has also been enhanced reliability with an MTBF value of 1.6 million hours, versus 1.4 million hours on the WD VelociRaptor. Prices are not yet revealed but the WD revealed that it has already shipped its new S25 model for two major OEM manufacturers.
