Microsoft has declared two innovative adaptations of SQL Server 2008 R2, Datacenter and the Parallel Data Warehouse (which is being well-known by the codename "Project Madison").
Features
Both are upscale versions. The first offers the opportunity to manage IT infrastructure and large applications and operations consolidation or virtualization. The software itself runs more than eight processors and a maximum of 256 logical cores. The second version is similar, but integrates DATAllegro technology that Redmond has acquired in 2008 and provides a massively parallel architecture to improve performance.
A beta version should be published in November, probably at the same time as the release of Office 2010. She has the distinction of integrating all the functionality of the final versions is expected in the first half of 2010.
Price
Note that Microsoft has increased its prices, which was decried as the firm tries to compete with Oracle. Redmond still maintains his license system based on the number of processors and not according to the amount of cores, as does his competitor. SQL Server 2008 R2 will sell $ 7 500 (approx. € 5 000) per processor (up to 1 000 €), against $ 28 800 (approx. € 20 000) per processor and $ 57 500 (approx. € 40 000) per processor for the Datacenter version or Parallel Data Warehouse.
