Sapphire offers Vapor-X versions of its entire line of AMD graphics cards since last March. The Chinese manufacturer had then launched ATI Radeon HD 4870 and HD 4850 with a new CPU cooler designed around the VCT technology for Vapor Chamber Technology. The concept is similar to heat pipes. In this case, the heatsink base includes two thin copper plates of trapping water vapor. Heat dissipation of this system is superior to that of a single block of copper.
Since the launch of the ATI Radeon HD 5870, in September, Sapphire began to talk of future versions Vapor-X. The buzz was fueled steadily since, with photos posted on Facebook or sent to some of our colleagues. The cards are now officially announced, and should land in France tomorrow, but in limited quantities.
They "discovered" so an ATI Radeon HD 5870 PCB retaining its original, but with a new dual-slot heatpipe. One can guess the presence of a large block of aluminum slats and four heat pipes. Everything is covered in a casing which leads the airflow to fan out on this bracket. The 80 mm fan is thermally regulated.
In this massive set, we find the RV870 (engraved in 40 nanometers by TSMC) with 1600 stream processors and 1024 MB of GDDR5 connected via a bus 256 bits. This graphics card is slightly overclocked, displaying frequency of 870 MHz core (instead of 850 MHz) and 2500 MHz memory instead of 2400 MHz.
Recall that the ATI Radeon HD 5800 are compatible DirectX 11 (Shader Model 5.0) and support ATI CrossFireX Technology, Avivo HD, Stream, and Eyefinity. Two DVI video outputs, an HDMI and DisplayPort are present. Sapphire provides coupons for download two DX 11 games, Battleforge and DiRT 2.
Sapphire also offers an ATI Radeon HD 5750 Vapor-X. We pass then to 720 stream processors, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 on bus 128 bits. The frequencies are 710 MHz core (700 MHz) and 2320 MHz for memory. The heat sink of this map is simpler than that of his sister, but still significant.
