It has for quite some time been rumors that Nvidia has reviewed the possibility of developing an x86-based processor for the computer market. There have been no concrete evidence that even if the statement from Nvidia has given indications that plans are there. Now the rumors have been given additional impetus when it has become clear that the manufacturer started hiring engineers formerly employed by the defunct x 86 CPU manufacturers Transmeta.

Nvidia said to be afraid to fall outside the x86 market as both AMD and Intel start to integrate graphics chips directly into their processors, which harms both Nvidia's chipset sales and to some extent, the market for external graphics cards.

According to analysts believed Nvidia to work on their own x86 solution where buying by other processor manufacturers such as VIA Technologies, is less likely.

While there are several things that indicate that neither Nvidia should or imagined engaging in battle on the x86 processor market. And the recruitment of x86 CPU engineers can be useful also for their further development of GPGPU techniques. NVIDIA has not yet given any official statement as of the current situation will take all information with a grain of salt, but the current situation, it feels like the video card manufacturer has enough problems without engaging in the incredibly tough x 86 markets.
