As we have laid our hands on an ATI Radeon HD 5950 / 5870 as amended Eyefinity. While the GPU range Evergreen support up to six displays, ATI Radeon HD 5000 available now only have four video outputs. AMD is preparing to launch a new version, which will have video output type Mini DisplayPort. This graphics card has 2GB of GDDR5, two times more than current solutions.
This was probably necessary in view of the resolutions reached in "fashion" Eyefinity. The additional chips sit on the back of the card, therefore, the model of our colleagues had no backplate, to see if this is confirmed on the production model. The Radeon special request apparently more energy than her sister, one finds indeed a PCIe power connector 8 pins on the PCB.
It remains unclear at present when AMD expects to launch its Eyefinity. Its final name and price are also unknown. The issue of performance is outstanding, as well as game compatibility. We probably know more when the release date approaches...
