Samsung has announced that it has created the world's thinnest chip memory, for use in smartphones, portable media players and other mobile devices. The new memory chip has a thickness of only 0.6mm and capacity of 32GB. This chip is 40% thinner and lighter than today's memory chips.

In the tiny 0.6mm thick package contains eight chips 30nm 32Gbit NAND flash memory, each of which has a thickness of 15 mm (0.015mm). For comparison, the average thickness of a human hair is 80mkm. The density of super-thin memory chips, according to Samsung, twice more than the previous generation of memory chips. Manufacturer has not yet officially informed about the companies interested in new product, but without a doubt, these memory chips will soon appear in a variety of devices.

The analyst firm iSuppli suggests that the demand for memory cards with capacities 2GB and above will grow from 310 million units in 2009 to 7.7mlrd units in 2012. It is also expected growth in demand for memory card capacity 16GB and above with 35 million units this year to 530 million by 2012, i.e. 15 times.
