Channel, trustworthy, says that in November or December of this year, nVidia will introduce Fermi, who by then will have time to get to the revision A3. There are currently auditing A2, which is rumored to be ready for another 42 weeks, ie at the end of October. The report on the Fermi release this year sound rather strange, especially considering that usually bring already developed the chip until it is ready for sale takes 3-6 months. Analysts Resource VR-Zone reviewed the known facts in order to present possible further developments.
Back in July on the resource SemiAccurate was reported that the Fermi (at that time called the GT300), was ready for 28 weeks. This was the first version of the chip, ie revision A1 (processors usually starts with A0, while the graphics chip is the first revision A1). In addition, it was predicted that during the whole of 2009 the company nVidia fails to produce the next generation of chips for graphics cards. While this idea seemed ridiculous to many, because most people felt that the GT300 will be released shortly after the Evergreen, ie in December 2009, but after a few months became the prevailing view, first expressed at SemiAccurate.
Fourteen weeks later, at 42 weeks in 2009, ie in late October, nVidia completes the revision A2. Now the manufacturer is working on a revision A3. Suppose that nVidia can accelerate the work and 10 weeks to organize the appearance of A3 (instead of 14 weeks, between the A1 and A2). Then it turns out that Fermi will be a 52 week, at the end of December 2009. If we assume that the audit is the final A3, then everything goes according to plan, and about three months after the announcement to start retail sales of devices based on this chip. That is about the end of March or early in the second quarter of 2010, any user will be able to look at the Fermi own eyes. Until now, the way Fermi was very thorny, so it is unlikely that in future everything will go without problems. Even a little trouble could lead to the transfer of the appearance of Fermi in the second quarter, in April or even May. Let's hope that nVidia will not be serious problems, and without that ATI has at least four months ahead of competitors.
It is unlikely that nVidia will release the Fermi on the market before January 2010, even if A2 is the final revision. Maybe in January, nVidia is going to finalize the revision A3? Even in this case in February 2010 sounds more plausible. Mass production of graphics chips, circuit board assembly, printed boxes, etc. will take some time, and the GT300 will be available in the best case in March. In addition, nVidia is constantly having problems due to insufficient supply company TSMC. So now say with certainty is nothing is impossible, and we can only wait until the situation becomes clearer.
