Intel is preparing to release a solid-state drive (SSD) for $ 120, which is positioned as a server "boot disk". This disk has a capacity of 40GB and can also be used in low-level notebooks and netbooks. It is expected that the new SSD Intel in April, will be offered to manufacturers for review, and in July 2010, will sell the first device with these drives.
Intel also plans to release a new line of SSD-drives enterprise-class with a capacity of 50GB, 100GB and 200GB. These drives will be closer to the potential of high-class hard disk drives used in today's servers, alleged a spokesperson of Intel. Current SSD Intel enterprise-class series X25-E, offer 32GB with 64GB. As for 120GB SSD, X25-V, known as the Glen Brook Drive, used cheaper NAND flash chips with multilevel cell (MLC). Currently, samples of this CD are distributed to producers of computer equipment and is expected in January, the device with this disk will go on sale, said Jon Perachchi, marketing manager at Intel. He said that the new drives are designed for use in enterprises, based on MLC NAND memory type, and that their price will be approximately 40% lower (ie around $ 6.5 per gigabyte) than current discs X25-E. For example, it is expected that the price of a new disk to 50GB is $ 350.
