Intel and AMD have just announced they have signed a new agreement to cross license, valid for five years. The signing ends all legal cases between the two companies, one in the state of Delaware and two in Japan. AMD also said it will involve itself more in the investigations of various government bodies (such as those of Europeans or Comission of the State of New York).
Intel will follow a number of rules and pay not less than 1.25 billion dollars to its competitor (837.7 million euros). AMD and Intel will hold conferences in the next few minutes, we will surely further details you supply.
Updates:
- Intel now anticipates spending $ 4.2 billion this quarter, instead of the 2.9 million originally proposed.
- Shares in AMD rose sharply, more than 22% at the market opening in New York.
- Intel authorizes the use GlobalFoundries license AMD x86 and the possibility of having GlobalFoundries of other AMD customers.
- The figure of 1.25 billion is traded and has no connection with the fine imposed by the Intel CE.
- Intel compilers should not restrict or adversely affect the performance of an application when run on an AMD, but does not optimize the code either.
- Peace between AMD and Intel takes (except of course in recent months) since 1976, it has a better market development and innovation.
- AMD will affirm in various government investigations that today's agreement resolves all claims (compensation probably). AMD will continue to cooperate with such investigations since the contrary is unlawful. Important statement from Dirk Meyer, some surveys are not covered by this agreement.
- AMD affirms nothing for now, but the precise value of the debt the company had not been unveiled yesterday at the annual conference for analysts. It is therefore very likely that this cash will be used to reduce debt from AMD.
