Qualcomm and Lenovo come to present to investors, a SmartBook based on the Snapdragon platform. SmartBook? A neologism for the new generation of notebook PCs based on ARM processors (such as smartphones) but in a format that approximates that of netbooks. The machine actually uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a chip running at 1 GHz for the source to smartphones, but which fits perfectly in a device with a screen of 10 inches and running Linux. And the next generation of chip ARM society should be optimized for SmartBooks two cores, 1.5 GHz, management of 3G in internal acceleration of Flash technology and support for the HD (1080p) would be Part.
SmartBooks manufacturers have a card to play: ARM processors can offer machines very independent and quiet, well adapted to video (with a completely support material) and powerful enough to compete with devices based on Atom Z. It remains to be seen whether the fact of replacing Windows with Linux comes to convincing users: the first netbook manufacturers have tried, they have broken teeth.
