The list of world's 500 fastest supercomputers have now been updated for the second time this year and after having dominated the list over several rounds have now been passed IBM's Roadrunner originated by Jaguar. Supercomputer built at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been runner-up for Roadrunner in the past two lists, but now in November put the bar on a whole new level. Roadrunner, which still offers a maximum performance of 1042 teraflops / s has no chance against the Jaguar with a new peak of 1759 teraflops / s.
Jaguar Cray XT5 has been in its new form, more than twice the performance as the world's third fastest supercomputer, Kraken, which measured a maximum performance of 832 teraflops / sec. When one looks at the world's fastest supercomputer, it is exciting to see the hardware used to achieve this great performance.
Although 80.4 percent of all computers on the latest TOP500 list is based on Intel processors rely on the Jaguar Cray and AMD's Opteron processors. The heart of the system is AMD's Istanbul six-core processor with a clock speed of 2.6 GHz gives 10.6 gigaflop / s each.
