DFI announced officially its hybrid motherboard, the P45-ion-T2A2 which introduces the new Hybrid range, which could then count other models later. At first glance, this motherboard is emerging as a solution LGA 775 form factor. It adopts the Intel P45 Express chipset and offers four DDR2 slots. One PCI Express x16 slot can accommodate a 2.0 adapter, one PCIe x1 and PCI are also present on this side of the motherboard.
The second zone includes a second then chipset, NVIDIA ION, and Atom soldered on the PCB. Two slots for DDR2 SO-DIMMs are present below the map. The second configuration will have one PCIe x1 and one PCI slot. The P45 offers six Serial ATA ports at 3Gb / s while the ION has three additional.
A chip Realtek RTL8366SB can connect two Gigabit Ethernet links between them, which allows the two configurations to "talk". One wonders however whether one or two RJ-45 ports can be used simultaneously (for an Internet connection for example)? The rear panel includes some shared ports (USB KVM), and those dedicated to each system.
Video output level; there are two DVI ports and HDMI, along with the output of HD audio. Between multiple chips, ports and large heat sinks, the layout of this motherboard is very busy, limiting the possibilities for extensions. DFI positions its first Hybrid on a topic of great ecological, assuming that only the configuration Atom + ion will be used mostly. You can also use the card for its performance; switch from one system to another when one of them is overloaded.
The Hybrid P45-ION-T2A2 DFI is now available. The Taiwanese manufacturer does not recommend retail price yet, but an amount of 399 dollars (325 euros, all taxes included) had been mentioned a few weeks ago.
